At the age of two Miriam Liske-Doorandish politely demanded her first cello and began studies with her mother, Lisa Liske-Doorandish. She has since worked with Hans Jensen, Bartholomew LaFollette, Amir Eldan and Paul Watkins. Miriam is motivated by a deep love of collaboration which has led her into traditional chamber music settings as well as traditional fiddling sessions. She has attended chamber festivals such as IMS Prussia Cove, Kneisel Hall, Orford, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Methow Valley Chamber Festival, Musique à Marsac and Soundfest Chamber Festival, and has worked with the Juilliard, Emerson, Ying, Doric, St. Lawrence, Pacifica, Cavani, Calder, Carmina and Chiaroscuro Quartets. 

 

A performer with diverse interests, Miriam has experience ranging from solo recitals and appearances with orchestra to collaborations with Irish, Arabic and Jazz musicians. She is passionate about expanding the traditional Classical repertoire, most recently delving into both historical performance and contemporary music during her undergraduate studies at Oberlin Conservatory. She is also a founder and co-director of Cello Springs Festival, an annual performance-based seminar held in rural Ohio.

 

Miriam has won prizes at several competitions including the the Music Teachers’ National Association Competition, the Arts Academy of North Carolina Competition, the Tennessee Cello Workshop Competition, and the Glenn Miller Scholarship Competition. She has also appeared on NPR’s From The Top program with Christopher O’Reilly and Matt Haimovitz.

 

In counterpoint with her musical studies, Miriam maintains a commitment to arts activism and community development. She is currently pursuing her MM at the Yale School of Music with Paul Watkins.
